: It is amazing to me that both of the following sections were written by the same person. : ------------------ : : - instead of waiting to the end of several thoughtful comments, why doesn't someone just go ahead and make a joke about farts or other crude matter now and save us all the time. : : Ephesians 5:3-4 : : But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual impurity, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or course joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. : : Think what you will. No one ever says anything about these sort of issues and people silently dissappear over them. We are Christians and as liberal as we like to think we are, there should be standards. I have said nothing that is not true and reasonable to anyone who claims to follow Christ. Nothing wrong with jokes, but they should be tempered and appropriate to the situation, not every thread needs to be turned into a joke. : : Nothing further. : -------------------- : : Silliness is not such a bad thing. Not always must things bear such heavy and somber import... in fact not always must humor even be sensible. Silliness allows us to look at our own absurdity and laugh. Without this ability we are nothing more than blind men trying to describe an elephant (reference to old Hindu morality tale) the point being that none of us have what even amounts to a modicum of real understanding about what we are and what God is. All that we think our highest learners have learned is nothing more than utter foolishness to God. Thus silliness allows us to look at our own pitiful state and respond not in pomposity or pretense, but in genuine laughter, for our state is nothing if not entirely funny. We live in a dream, yet get so wrapped up in it that we wallow and trevail over these puffs of smoke. : : In short... we ought'nt to take ourselves so seriously. : : To quote Dr. Jim Goetsch, "and the fool just laughs..." : : I am a fool in every sense of the word. : : How do each of you rate? : --------------------
