Sometimes life just seems so overwhelming... it's almost stifling. Do you know what I mean? Sometimes it seems like I'm on a huge battlefield with all my friends, family, and fellow human beings... and I'm watching my friends fall left and right to the guns of the enemy... and I'm powerless to do anything about it... and I may even be next... and sometimes I take a few hits... and sometimes those hits are even from my friends/family/fellow human beings... but I manage to keep going, nonetheless... all the while beckoning my friends and family to keep going... to press onward.... to hang in there... just to the next hill... where we can take cover... but there ahead is another clearing where we have to press on and others are sure to meet the same fate.
This makes me afraid sometimes. It's because of all I see around me. It's because of this war all around us and the people we love who have already fallen... and those who might fall next week... and even we... who might fall today. And I wonder if even YOU AND I will make it.
I suspect that the common fatal error comes from taking one's eyes off the commander of this great battle and putting it onto our neighboring friends/family/mankind... then we lose track, we lose our example... we aren't clearly able to see what move to do next.. where to go... and we so easily fall into the snares of the enemy. I think God weeps for these same fatalities of war. I think God longs for them to make it to the place of shelter... to prevail against the enemy.
And then I wonder...
Who will God choose to help lead them?
What if it's you?
What if it's me?
And are we remaining in a place where we'd hear the Lord's command should it come?
