The point is that we should be expecting such since it is what Christianity has left us as a legacy. If we aren't ready to face these things we should evaluate our faith, and if our faith is only leading to complacency and cushiness perhaps it lies in the wrong place. I don't think 'chicken soup' will fix either of those things.
