: LOVELY SALAMANDER BOY

: There once was a boy who loved to watch the salamanders down at the pond near his house. He loved not only their sleek, naked, amphibious stretchy skin which reminded him of wetsuits. He loved watching their tiny bones and wills moving around underneath that skin. Their Christmas tree skin was always bright and always telling some story. There was always magic energy there, either in spots on a neon back, or in orange bellies and orange strips under arms and legs, or legs and legs under the dark, brown, bumpy newts. They looked like rich, dark chocolate on top. He wanted to get into their world. He wanted to be like the boy in Birdy, real close to his amphibious friends. He went there and stripped to his shorts and the first thing, he got his chest and belly down in the cool mud, praying that the ameoba cultures would be beneficient. He didn't know too many microorganisms, but he longed to be scooting about with his dual-natured, air-breathing, watery pals. He swam all day, going from secret salamander hideout, to secret salamander hideout. He loved to do this. He came home one day and wrote a book which had over 700 names of different salamanders in it, some of which he had met. He knew most of their names in Latin. He especially loved red efts.
: Later on in life, this boy grew up and other people found out about his passion. He never gave it up though. He never apologized and sometimes you can still see him crawling around in the shallow end of some stream or another, looking under rocks and moss. THE END

What is so special about salamanders?
