It echoes the happy giddy desire of Robert Smith (on his better days, and not as exhibited in Bloodflowers) and not the melancholia of so many other syrupy whiny bands with bad hair and Molly Ringwald movies?

Yes, Robert was reaching for something beyond his reach. Everyone else was reaching for sales. Robert was surrendered to his craft, and voices of mermaids from Heaven. Everyone else was surrendered to a haircut. When Robert said the words, HOT, HOT, HOT or NEVER ENOUGH, there was a mystical experience at hand. Robert was always surrendering in WONDER to a clash of opposites. Robert was broken since he was looking for ELFLAND. Everyone else dressed like an elf and settled for the RED HAZE. Robert wailed like a banshee for another world. Everyone else created their own silly reality and pouted with their bangs in their face.
