Hi Kat,
Thank you for writing. You didn't offend me. I guess the best way to explain my feelings is that I'm very protective of sacred writings from all cultures and beliefs. Even though I am a Christian, a new one at that, I honor all people's paths to God. I believe deep in my heart that God speaks to everyone which means that a person may not be a Christian and still have a deep understanding and relationship with God. As Pastor Dan put it, the most spiritual people are often not Christian.
I have been in the presence of H.H. the Dalai Lama and watched Tibetan Buddhist monks build a sand mandala as part of a blessing ceremony and both have been the holiest experiences I have had to date. I have studied the Hopi Native Americans whose every act is a ritual, a celebration of the Creator. This is not to discount the church or Christians. It's only to say that there is a huge, beautiful world out there with human beings from all walks of life that have something to teach. To remain isolated from other teachings in my opinion is a mistake. If you are grounded in what you believe then other ways to God can only make your own richer.
I have done a lot of research about women and how mythology, cultural anthropology and Jungian psychology can help heal a woman's soul. ALL women have a "story" to tell. I would gladly hear yours and share mine.
I look forward to getting to know you better as well. My email address is paula_vaughan@mindspring.com. I'd rather continue this discussion off the board.
See you Sunday,
Paula
: I'm sorry if I did and I want to let everyone know that I really don't know what the Tao and Kabbalah is all about. It may be a philosophy that is worthy of deeper study and I don't want to trivialise the things you are studying at all.
: I do apologize and in the future will only make comments on the things I have a clue about.
:
: The passage you posted said something to me that seemed incongruent with what I see as meditation on God and His Word.
: Please, don't talke my post the wrong way, I dont' mean to sound judgemental or righteous.
: Like anyone searching for direction, meaning and enlightenment, I can be mistaken confused or just plain blurt out something stupid without really thinking about it, even on the message board.
: In fact, I wouldn't mind learning alittle more about these things myself, I guess it just seems a little intimidating with everything that is out there to study. I am trying to spend more time with god and in the Word and it is hard enought to get my flesh to obey that! As far as the "spiritualy rough waters" comment, I just meant that you always have to be guarded and keep the in mind of christ in everything you read and see and hear. These things can have a powerful impact on any person and I am finding even seemingly innocuous things like magazine articles and movies can creeep into your brain and cloud your spiritual judgement. People that are young in the Lord are especially vulnerable and should be careful, but I digress.
: It's not being alone that is frightening to me, of course it's difficult, but I too see it as a tiem to grow closer to the Lord and to discover what He might have for me to learn. I am lonely, but I am anticipating a great time of growth and joy also. I want you to know Paula, I really appreciate the encouragemanet you gave me in your post and I hope I get a chance to know you better.
: I especially like that line about the Warrior within! Arrggghh!
