Cari--great post! I agree totally!

: I would like to say that I am not ashamed to say that I love my country. No, I don't think that Americans are any better than people of other nationalities, but I do feel that we are a very fortunate people. America is a melting pot of all nationalities and religions. We all have the freedom provided by a democracy, but more importantly, we were all created in God's image and are entitled to true freedom, which only God can offer. Whether, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Jewish, or Christian (to name a few), we have the freedom to worship God as we believe He is to be worshiped. I am honored to have that freedom.

: I feel a deep sorrow for all of my fellow Americans (most of whom originated from other countries) who lost family and friends to these tragic events. I cry to see how hateful man has the potential to be. I cry for everyone who lost someone they care for. I cry for my coworker who has a missing family member in New York. Please keep him (and the many others) in your prayers. I cry because I have taken so much for granted. Things that people in many countries don't have. Now I realize that I have it really good here, and I have been so ignorant to complain. Now I better understand the horrible things that people in some countries live with daily.

: On the other hand, I am glad to see the good that is coming out of this. I have seen people of all walks of life seek refuge in God. I have heard secular radio stations play Christian bands because of their "positive" message. I have heard DJs from these stations refer to prayer, faith in God, and miracles. One of these stations devoted air time to broadcast a prayer vigil. I also have seen people of all religions and nationalities unifying in this horrible time. Did anyone watch the memorial at the National Cathedral? Leaders and people from numerous religions united to pray for the missing and to mourn the loss of our fellow Americans. Yes, there are a few ignorant people who choose to lash out at innocent people (and I am very sad about that), but for the most part, I see adversity bringing the best out in a lot of Americans (regardless of their national origin or religion).

: Shalom,
: Cari
