I realize that you expect a response from me. I am going to speak from the heart rather than the intellect in hoping that I can best express myself to you. The words you share below are very similar to the ones that my husband said to me when we first met. We used to disagree a lot about religion and in fact our spiritual differences were the biggest stumbling block in our relationship. However, we knew that we were deeply in love and meant to be together because our union is so filled with understanding, compassion and kindness. In order for this to happen we quit talking about our religious beliefs and started living them. Through our actions and not our words we showed each other how sincere, passionate and dedicated to our beliefs we are and what good people we grew into because of them. For us religion is not just a sideline in our lives. It's both of our intended careers; mine as professor, John's as a writer and it is part of our psychological makeup. I don't know if you can understand this or not.
I have a degree in world mythologies and have had the pleasure of studying sacred scripture, myth and religion across the globe. Seeing and experiencing the truths I have in these religions, it is impossible for me to deny them. Just as it is impossible for me to deny the experience I had that brought me to witness Christ's power. I guess you could say that I am a fanatic about religious freedom and I don't agree that ignorance about other beliefs is necessary for a fledgling Christian to be successful in their faith. I do understand, however, that on this we will certainly have to agree to disagree.
When I post things on the board about other religions it's in the spirit of education and sharing information I have with others. I can't help it really, it's what I'm passionate about. The "other-than-Christian" things I share are not mean to be against Christ. My intent has never been to offend anyone because the people I know who are on the board have had many discussions with me about lots of religions. Also, the obvious content of the board varies and as you know. You've posted about swastikas and Nazism which can certainly be seen as anti-Christian. Ironically, I could write you a page about the Hopis and how swastikas are the symbols representing their path of migration into this world. I guess it's all in your perspective.
With all due respect to you as a person and your feelings, my gut intuition tells me that this is a situation where if you don't like something on the board, then you should ignore it and keep on moving to a post that does speak to you. I think that denying a person's right to speak about their feelings or their passions is not in keeping with the mission that I understand Pastor Steve has for this board. If I am wrong, I am certain he will stand to correct me.
Most of all the world is filled with soooo much BEAUTY and to me religion, ceremony and ritual are BEAUTIFUL and I am compelled to want others to see this richly colored tapestry that God has woven. I know this will make me an unpopular Christian, but I believe with all of my heart that each person is called to God, but not always in the same way. I could write a book about this and maybe someday I will and I understand that you probably won't want to buy it ;).
I hope that we can agree to disagree about our relgious beliefs and interests in the spirit of humanity and friendship.
: This will probably seem harsh, but I have to share what I think about this and other recent postings.
: I thought this was a Christian message board.
: I get tired of seeing posts about other religions here and the tolerance shown towards other "doctrines" or "prophesies" such as this and the "The Essential Kabbalah " as though they are "just alright". They aren't. Jesus said that not one will come to the Father except through Him. These other religions do not teach that.
: Why should we aim to be "more educated" in these other teachings when most of us cannot even name all the books of the bible, let alone in order!
: I don't know who the Hopis are, but we had better be careful not to put anything above the provision and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. There has been an awful lot of talk about the prophesy of non christian sources and interest in other "religions" or whatever lately. Please don't promote this over Christianity. I am sure there are a lot of people that visit this board other than our "crowd" and I am certain there are some that visit who are new in Christ and this type of thing might become a stumbling block to them.
: I don't think people spend enough time praying and reading the Bible, let alone to be encouraged to dabble in the recent ideas posted.
: The reason I say this is not to ask for legislation of the board, it is to plead with my family to continue looking toward the prize and continue on the correct path.
: Put your faith in Christ.
: : I don't think there are words to properly honor what this man has written. We saw some of this on the news last night and it's tragic. The truth in this matter is so heavy it's suffocating. There will be no winners. This is the real stuff. The Hopis prophesized years ago that the West would end up on their bellies trying to survive. Here we are and here we go. God bless the world.
