Bryon, you said this:
Why should we aim to be "more educated" in these other teachings when most of us cannot even name all the books of the bible, let alone in order!
Amen! I agree. I know that I know that we all can learn about our own faith much more. Steven caught some of muddy bible scholarship a few weeks ago, when I was confusing different scripture passages and when I said Lucifer, when I MEANT the Adversary. I know that there are people who do whole bible studies on whether Lucifer and the Adversary are both the same being. Lots of scholars are trying to hammer that out. That is one exapmle. However, it would be bad to assume that we can't learn more. So, I agree with you. But if one can be educated in one's own religion is it not beneficial to learn at least a little about others so that we can have better understanding between members of different religions? I think so. And it doesn't imply that just because we see parallels that we believe they are exactly the same. This is why I am also a member of Hindu and Buddhist message boards, and not just Christian ones. Only, on my other message boards they know I am a Christian. That's all. And we respect each others' differences.
Peace, Bill
