: Thanks, Why do you like it? Or why does it strike you that way? Also, did you see the one in the prior post?
: Thanks again, Bill
i just really really dig your art. there is something about it, a feel to it that intrigues me. i never get tired of looking at these ideas playing themselves out. sometimes i have the feeling i used to have when i read comic books as a kid. i always dug the marvel books, they were a lot more "cosmic" than the dc books, i remember getting pretty lost in those mags. some artists were better than others for sure, and sometimes they would really knock me out. i get that same feeling looking at some of your stuff. sometimes its more "high art" and sometimes it is more, i don't know, like comic book art can be when it is really good. like, who cares about the story, those images are evoking something that is beyond the story line. for instance i remember this really old (from the 70's when i was pretty young) comic where this character called The Destroyer gets the kibosh from a character named Thanos, who functions as a kind of comic bookish god of death. i can't remember too well but i think the Destroyer was an agent of Thanos but then they become at odds. i could be totally wrong. anyway good old thanos lets the destroyer have it. but the art was pretty "psychedelic", the way they communicated the "battle" wasn't very typical for a comic book. i seem to remember the Destroyer ending up in between the teeth of Thanos, but i don't think Thanos was really big enough to do that. it was metaphorical. it was an acid trip. it was the 70's... but anyway the art was way cool. so sometimes your stuff reminds me of that, the best comic art i have seen, but you are dealing with symbols that are more interesting. sometimes your characters are heroic, sometimes they are lonely, still heroic but in a sad/poetic way. but then you do a lot of stuff that is way beyond comic art, that is more high art and more mythological and timeless, but still a the style that is, i don't know, pop art i guess. i don't have the vocabulary to do it justice.
...the previous post strikes me as something that might work better if you had better tools to work with and had the training to work with them. the stuff you do with the tools/materials you have mastered is a lot stronger. still though i think the basic idea is pretty interesting. somewhat shocking and disturbing. which always seems to end up being a really good thing when it comes to art. basically if you want to do computerized art you need some better tools, like a waycom (sp?) tablet so you can draw directly to the screen and a bigger monitor and a better computer and a copy of photoshop. and then you'd need to kind of become a geek about the software, read a bunch of books and maybe take some training classes. i just think ideas like these, pointed at this medium, would be a lot better realized. or maybe your scan of the image was crappy. i don't know... staring at it on this laptop, its not exactly like a gallery. anyway i like the image, i feel something in it that feels like an evolution, maybe in a highly personal sense. but its not my favorite.
