: this morning i had a dream that all of our code development at work was going to become completely object oriented. there was this consultant who was explaining how it worked. there were these machines that were sort of growing up out of the servers, big flat circuit boards with places to plug in these little modules. you had to wire all the modules together to make your object collection, each module plugged into the board, and then you wrote your code so that all the pieces went inside each of the little modules. then each code snippet would be encapsulated inside each module, and the modules would send messages to each other via the wires and the board connecting them all. but then i realized that this would never work because the architecture was too inflexible, you would have to build a new physical machine every time you wanted a new program. and since there was only so much room to build these things you would have to wipe out the old machines (and the associated programs) before you could build a new one. the dream shifted to a new phase where everything was software, the machines disappeared, and then i thought it was going to work and we would be ok.
John, I think I understand this. For me it's like this in my dreams, where the machinery disappears altogether or is so blended into nature that you cant really tell where the machinery ends and nature begins. There might be huge spherical plants that are basically pure fields of communication. People might rest inside them and learn while they sleep. There are powerful symbols that convey whole thoughts and charters of information. there are huge banks of meaning in them. everything is in code and the code has a mystical tendency. whole dialogues are in symbol. this occurs among humans and machines. also the machinery gets more organic. alot of rocks and plants that are substitue machines. even animals are substitue machines. these are things i see in dreams. It is 3:32 in case this makes little sense.
