I totally agree with you G. Unfortunately I'm in the thick of it right now and there doesn't seem to be any way to stem the tide of gooing and melodramatic fauning that ensues. I honestly think it is a learned response to a biological urge to protect these small new beings. The whole "cute" thing is truly and documentably an ecological survival mechanism that causes adults of most species to recognize that this creature is helpless and needs to be protected. Unfortunately in this country the response has developed into that blood-curdling, "aaaawwwwwww!" anytime something cute appears. You should see my boy's face when people do that, he gets this real incredulous and slightly annoyed look like, "what is that about!"
However in the defense of all those fuaning pooers, they really just want to show they care. It's one of those things you just can't fight.
