Easter day has a longstanding tradition within and without Christianity. Before Christianity the pre-Christian Europeans and people of many other cultures had spring festivals which celebrated the new life. The Jews had their own celebration of PASSOVER, or PESACH, which commemorated their deliverance from Egyptian slavery. When Christ instituted the Communion Supper it was on PESACH. Before this first EUCHARISTIC supper was completed, Christ was arrested and killed. Later he rose from the dead. His followers soon began to commemorate his rising from the dead. Now,the Feast of Christ's Resurrection is called THE GREAT PASSOVER OF THE LORD!
Thank God, who in his mercy, has delivered his people from the hands of Egypt and sin. Thank God, who in his love has provided us the Passover Lamb!
