: : with all this talk of camping and kamanas and such, i think it's important to remember a HUGE part of this experience. silence is very important for connecting to God and to our sister nature. A real big part of the experience of connecting w nature will be silence.
: I agree! Something about the purity of sound in nature is, as Corey said, very "cathartic." John and Kathy and I used to try to walk in total silence when we'd do our little nature hikes. It was beautiful to be able to listen to the animals, wind, our breath. I, like Corey, feel very at peace when I am outdoors. As I said before, when in nature, I can truly recognize God as "creator." It is so obvious that his hands carefully fashioned every detail. Nature is one of the few places where I actually feel comfortable with silence. In the city, it is more difficult for me to be quiet and focus on God... because it is so cluttered with what man has created?
Cari--you are so right when you say 'cluttered w what man has created'. It's like we construct this other world that we can be comfortable w since the 'garden' reminds us too much of God. Anyway, everything you said above was right on the money! Maybe one day you and I will go scouting through the woods. See ya, Bill
