I have never in my life met someone so complicated and generous as Steven Meigs. I have never heard someone pray so boldy, sincerely and unabashedly. I have never heard someone minister so honestly, forthrightly and intelligently.
I will never, ever forget the hospitality that Steve and Cari showed us when we lived with them for four months. That was one of the most difficult times in my life- pregnant, homeless, and penniless. There were some very hard days, but each night we sat together watching television, eating dinner and sharing our day. It was beautiful. I walked away from this experience with an unwavering and profound love and respect for the Meigs.
I have not been a Christian very long and still hate labeling myself. I have only been able to attend the afternoon service twice, but each time has been like walking into God's heart. I always come away knowing that I'm a better human being for having been. And the love! There is so much love that by inertia alone it heals. The community and fellowship is the healthiest, kindest and most promising I have ever seen.
John and I are working on a plan to begin giving more to Steve's ministry and invite and challenge everyone else to do the same. We are in the process of saving for a house and have made it our goal that we will be ready to buy one in April 2003. This means that we have to "pay ourselves first" so to speak but Steven's ministry will now be a part of our monthly budget. We are both sacrificing to do this but it feels right and holy. This money is a love offering to keep what we're building together as a Family in Christ alive. If everyone gives we can make this happen and show Steve that what he is giving us is worthwhile. For many, this service has become blood and life.
