: all of the things you talked about are happening, and contrary to the little bird post they ARE happening locally. and Florida does have plenty of sun and wind to power a house. There is a display home in Sarassota called the Florida House, you can go take tours and stuff. There is a project starting near USF. I know people in ST Petersburg who get checks from the power company because they sell their excess electricity back to the utility, it's called utility intertie, and it allows you to generate your own electricity and use the grid, the billing just works both ways, if you generate more than you use, they pay you for it.

THAT IS COOL! i've heard of this happening in oregon but i didn't know it was happening around here. i figured if anyone would know what is happening in florida it would be you.

: In fact, that is why we bought this place here. Many of our friends were starting to look for homes and everyone was on this side of town, we bought here where there were several other lots available and in a price range that we could all afford. My goal was to set up an informal community...

that is interesting. i think you explained this before.

i've been hearing about communities that are organized around all kinds of ideals, some environmental, some centered around other things. i'm interested in learning more about that kind of thing, so i've kind of had my antennae out. kinda thing.

i have a whole bunch of ideas about what i'm looking for, the more i think about it, the more convoluted it becomes. it would be something like this: small windfarm on a big flat piece of land, a house on stilts near some water, a river or lake, the inside of the house laid out like a big flat or industrial space, the walls on at least one side of the house made mostly of glass, then maybe a piece of the house is used as convection space to keep cool, solar panels on the roof. i'd be within biking distance of mass transit and i'd never have to drive a car again. i'd be within easy reach of lots of interesting culture and i'd ride a bike to work every day. i want it all high tech and natural, lots of wood and steel and glass. a space to meditate in, create in. something like that.

makes my head a little dizzy trying to combine all these ideas. also i'd like this to work in tampa because all my good friends are here.

yeah!
