I thought that I would just make a few more comments if it helps in finding some readings for common ground in our discussions:
A presupposition of faith is not necessarily a problem, depending on the level of detail to which we are talking. I tend to talk in different terminology than anyone here, but when I put my beliefs into your terminology, I do believe in God, I do believe that Jesus was the son of God, and I do believe in his teachings. I was also raised Catholic, so I have a basic understanding of the religion. (Although admittedly, not a highly educated one, as my Catholic elementary and high schools did not get deep into things in our classes.)
Does this help in finding some common ground and to help recommend some readings? I know this is a fairly basic foundation, but hopefully it is better than nothing.
And you are correct in that neither one of us is trying to remain offended. :)
