: : I agree with this. But I would point out that we are exactly like these Christians we make fun of. No we don't leave tracks on the table, but we ARE loud and obnoxious and we are more concered with our latest little endeavor or new Christian tattoo to really focus on what is important. None of us are concered with our building fund, but we are concerned with having a nice worship band and sound equipment that works well. I'm only slamming things i have noticed to point out what we may be too comfortable with. I am certainly as guilty as anyone of many such things, so please don't take offense to it. I'm just saying that the cliquish, self-centered attitude is not limited to the mainstream, we fancy ourselves apart from it, but we are exactly the same.
: this is EXACTLY why i have not been part of "the church" for several years and why i have no intention in the forseeable future to become part of "the church". the whole "attitude thing" makes me want to upchuck. so you exchange one kind of cool for another, what have you accomplished?? the holy spirit draws each person in whatever way he sees fit, so i don't want to stand in the way of his leading, but we need to keep in mind that what we are referring to here are personal likes and dislikes based on cultural differences, nothing more.
yes, I understand, but at the same time we are cautioned against not gathering with other Christians. The whole " do not forsake the gathering of yourselves...as some are in the habit of doing"
I think it is important to maintain these relationships even if the body is flawed. There is something that we get from other Christians that we can't get from other relationships, even on a shallow level. But as for the cultural Christianity, that drives me crazy as well.
