: I'd be interested to hear who your favorite Science Fiction writers are.

I almost forgot to answer this question. oh, no!

The answers are:

Ursula LeGuin - for quality writing and good stories.
Anne McCaffery - for sporadic quality writing, but excellent storylines and wonderful dragons.
Larry Niven - mediocre writing, medicore stories, but excellent extrapolations from science to fantastic worlds.
William Gibson - but only his older works. something broke in him recently.
Oh, and how could I forget -- Asimov.

And, although I won't recommend him as a writer, Orson Scott Card wins honorable mention for 'Ender's Game'. Even though it was written when he was young, and obviously targetted and young geeky children, I still enjoy reading it as I get older.

I used to like Heinlein. For a few books. Then he started to repeat himself. Then I got old enough to understand what his philosophy on women actually was, then I read a few more books. Now, I can only read 2 of his books at all without throwing them away in horror. I understand why people like him, I really do. But I just can't do it. And I can;t read a lot of writers from his era for the same reasons. Ack. We should discuss this more when I get there in a couple weeks, because I will start a rant if I am not careful. :)

With Love,
Bob
