: : I have great respect for Toby Mac. In fact I went to the DC Talk Solo Tour.

: : I completely respect his lyrical ability, I love his style, and he is great at being relevant to whatever issues face the young alternative set at the time, and relevant in a no nonsense, not backing down or compromising way. Many people may make fun of DC Talk's beginnings as rappers, or of their transition from that sound into what they have now, but this is just a progression of musicians with differing styles expressing themselves. I think it's great that they can still collaborate so well with such disparate tastes.

: : As for Toby Mac himself... he seems to me one of the most rocksteady artists around today. He knows his mission and he fulfills it without watering down or selling out. Many people may not know this, but his changing style is often deliberate, not to appeal to the latest thing, but in answer to it. Jesus Freak, which was the first major jump in style was a direct answer to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Toby's lyrics counter line for line some of Cobain's. In a time when grunge was spreading depression and self-hatred, Toby was there pressing hope right back in the face of the hurting... and you know what! It got heard. He has the reach to do it. Now he answers the rapcore movement with all its agression. I can't quote lines because I don't have the album yet.

: : Finally, he has had a great influence on many artists that are working today through his label and production.

: : Laugh if you want, but the man has it together.
