: no really they had bee patterned spandex er sumthin..it looked like beesuits..

: hair metal..ahh way before my musical listening endeavours..
: no hair metal for me thank you...walks to the nearest barber shop to get a fresh haircut.

yeah i know, i was very familiar with Stryper back in the day. there was about 10 minutes there where they were cool. ok, i'm being mean, it was really like a couple of years. they were a bit on the tail end of that hair band business, weren't they?

i remember really digging those guys for a while there. i was laughing because those crazy outfits they had on WERE kinda like bee suits. the "yellow and black attack", wasn't that it? whew, thats good stuff.

i was in a band back then. well sort of. it was my friends dan and mike and me. dan had a lot of guitars. he was very kind and let me borrow them along with his peavey amp. it had a cool pedal that made strange sounds. i did not have an electric guitar. i think i may have bought my classical guitar during that period. so anyway we would sit around and play. but we didn't have a drummer, and we sucked pretty bad.

mike's parents had this huge piece of property they lived on out in the country. mike got the idea to go buy a semi trailer. just the trailer itself no truck or anything. so he found a cheap one and got it hauled out to this piece of pasture that mike's parents were sort of leasing to their neighbor. the neighbor had cows that grazed there, and there was this huge scary bull around too. he was sort of reddish brown and liked to mount the cows, wander around and generally look scary as hell. we would have to open the gate to this field and drive our cars up to the trailer. no way i was going to walk casually by that bull.

anyway we were all big stryper fans. i had a t shirt and i think maybe even a head band. i seem to remember that... eek. we decided that even though we were in the middle of a field with no one but the cows around us, we still needed sound proofing on the inside of the trailer. so we got all these egg cartons from an egg farm down the road, the big ones that are basically crate size but still flat, about the height of regular egg cartons. somehow we got them pinned or glued or something to the inside of the trailer. i mean everywhere inside. it was very surreal looking in there. and of course we spray painted them yellow and black.

i don't think we really ever successfully played even one song together with anything remotely approaching skill. we were terrible. but man did we have some fun out there. it was a bit of a secret world while it lasted. a very funny, very odd universe that disappeared pretty quickly once we abandoned all that stuff.

yep, that's my stryper story. well i have one more quick one. i got to see them in lakeland one time. the drummer walked by in all his regalia. he was very very short. i never would have guessed he was so short. ok, thats it. :-)
