I don't have a definite answer to this one. (But I do have a guess.)
Do you have logs from when those messages were posted?
My guess is that John and Cari posted their replies at almost exactly the same time.
Therefore John posted, it wrote his entry into the index, then Cari posted before it was done actually writing the content, and her content was written into the actual HTML file.
It sounds like an obscure bug in the scripts...
