Labels are man made things

For me, being a painter, I simply paint because I love to paint. I've never painted for a category of art nor tried to fit my work into such a category. And when all of a sudden my work started to get noticed, I was somehow "categorized," or better yet, labeled as an Outsider Artist because I had no formal training as a painter, as well as the fact that I have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder.)
Categories and labels are man made things made for the benefit of society in order to simplify things. Outsider Art-Art Brut-Self Taught Art are simply labels/categories created to define a particular style or type of painting. When Dubuffet coined the term "Art Brut" in the early 1940's, it was "his" definition or label that he created to describe a particular art that he liked. And whether as a group, Outsider Artists are self taught, disabled, mentally insane or living in obscurity, it is the simple beauty of the truthfulness and purity that this kind/type of art is about that makes it special. The truth sets you free and that is what Outsider Art is all about for me.

sunday when i went to a gallery,....pop wow...i walked into an amazing gallery....all these cool paintings all these emotions and energies captured me to enjoy..all the wonderfilled maddness of color usage...i was taken back...thrusted forward..i had a orgasism i was satisfied i became hungry at the feast of love on canvas on wood on found materials...wow. pop...let me tell you all where this gallery is.. in a little building called kingdom come..done by the artist of parrell universe
