I think Bob's suggestions below make sense. I think that if the purpose of the board is defined then the nature of the board will follow. This is important. I like Steve's new guidelines and feel that they would work fine. I like the idea of the board being for church use, but also for it being searchable on GOOGLE and other search engines. Just my two cents worth.

: Steve --

: I have deliberately withheld comments on all of this because as you said, I do not attend your church and it is not my place. I am really just an internet person, and its really not my business to get involved.

: However, having worked in the Internet industry, I think that I can bring up a few points on the new message board concept based on my past experience.
:
: If you do go to a new message board, you will need to think about whether the public board should remain in existance at all. Having two boards for differing purposes will greatly increase the maintenance, as someone will have to monitor the public board to be sure nothing is posted here that should be private. There will also be a higher expectation from people on a private board. No matter what you tell people, it is human nature to think, "Well, its private, so people are taking it more seriously and will respond quicker". and other such things.
:
: In all honesty, I think you need to define a specific purpose for the new and the old message boards. The new one is probably easy, but do you really have a reason for the public board if the private one fulfills your purpose?

: My professional recommendation would be to only have one board, to require a login to keep it private, and to make it abundantly clear that you have the right to remove any discussions from the board that either are negative or are more appropriate for face to face communications.
: I also think that the new board should not have any archived messages from this board, and should use a different design, just to clear the air and make it a fresh start.

: Whatever you decide, I wish you the best in everything going on down there...

: With Love,
: Bob
