I grew up in a world of flying metallic blue convertibles, plastic Ghidorrahs and Hall-O-ween decorations. The first thing that mesmorized me was a fat orange screw-in electric Christmas lightbulb. My parents raised me in church and they were PTA parents. My brother played soccer and I drew. When I was little I collected Hall-O-ween decorations and I scared my teachers for drawing 'morbid' pictures year round. I refused to jump out of the school bus during a fire drill since i wasn't sure if the bus driver would catch me. i protested "if this was a real fire, maybe, but every one here can see that this is sooo fake." i was forever trying to start clubs, nature clubs, private investigation clubs, clubs where guys could beat each other up and read DYNAMITE magazine. Yeah, it was strange. so i moved to Denver, scared some people, imitated Elvis for a few months, then became an alien, and was working on schematics for a lifesize pterodactyl that i could ride around the neighborhood. soon a pug came into my life. so, i kept him. then my parents repaired to florida where i soon grew up. i was 11. Puberty was fairly uneventful and rather routine. My main balancing force during those days was m youth group. I was Methodist but influenced by fundamentalism. Thank God, C.S. Lewis eventually saved me from all that. In high school I was into new wave or 'progressive' music. The girls I liked were all kind of 'progressive' girls. in college i took anthro two semesters in a row, it made me question my faith. i returned to the methodist church and eventually discovered catholicism, thanks to Sam Phillips, who got me jump-started into reading Merton and Chesterton. my relationship to the catholic church is love/hate all the way. the last few years i have been sitting in hot tubs in boulder, putting together art shows, studying hinduism, taking hermeneutics and collecting 'coming-of-age' movies. I am reading the Ramayana and staring into my Christmas tree and thinking about the wonder of life. My favorite show on tele ever was MY SO CALLED LIFE. I love India and Brasil and would love to see Barcelona. I study Spanish and Portugues. I don't know where I'll end up, but I know I believe in Jesus Christ, who has been w me for 34 years.
