: We made it! I talked to Steve, so you all may have heard about the trip, but just in case...
: I got pulled over for driving UNDER the speed limit! We had made it to the mountains of Hwy 60 in Missouri, and we were going to hit them during the day, since neither of us wanted to drive that huge truck and car carrier on that road at night. We stopped at McDonalds and discovered that one of the double side tires on the car carrier had completely shredded. All that was left was fringe melted to the rim. We called Penske, and a couple of hours later were back on the road. Now it was dusk, with a grey sky and grey road and grey cars coming at us. The road twisted and wound and went up and down (look, ma! I'm a country songwriter!), making it incredibly difficult to see where to aim the truck. They apparently don't believe in streetlamps or reflectors in the middle of the road, so every time a car would come at me with its headlights on, I lost sight of the fog line at the right and had to slow down.
: Just when it really got dark, and I told Richard to pray and started singing "Without Faith," I saw blue lights in my mirror. I got the guts to pull over between cliffs and a guy in a mountie hat tapped on my window. "Just wanted to see if there was a problem." Oh, it was fun! I felt completely ridiculous and made Richard drive. He couldn't see any better than I could, but he has more testosterone than I. Thank God for Mr. T! Teehee!
: Anyhoo, I really, really, really miss you! It's kinda lonely here, and jobs are very scarce after Worldcom and others have laid off so many people. Richard and I are learning to not complain so much--it seems that for the first week, everything that came out of our mouths when we were alone was negative. We've been doing devotions together and going to church, and we finally talked about it and decided that we're stuck here and there might not be any breaks any time soon, so we might as well suck it up and find some joy in our situation. Today we saw blue sky with big fluffy clouds for almost 2 hours. It was really cool! The first non-grey sky we've seen! We wanted to bask. There's a street cat that cuddles up to me every time I go outside to smoke. She gets warm and makes me feel fuzzy. There are little things. God's doing some serious teaching--I just hope we don't forget the lessons as easily as I forgot my geometry theorums.
: I truly love you all, and miss you terribly!
