Its a web geek thing. It started quite a few years back, simply as online journals.
But the trend took off, and people started to write software programs to make it easy for non-technical folks to have fairly nice journals online. Standard features seem to be comments about each post, links to friend's journals, and a calendar of when each post was made.

Now the term 'blogging' is more recent. It is the same phenomenon, but someone coined the term a couple years back, and it has really taken off. It came from the phrase 'web logging', as in logging your journal entries on the web. The shortened version is just a lot cuter, though.

One of the first 'blogging' sites that I know of is livejournal.com. It also has its spin-off of deadjournal.com. (Corey and I are both on livejournal.com, BTW.)
There are also blogger.com, blogspot, com, movabletype.com, lots of sites really.
And of course, lots of software packages so geeks like jonvon can put his own blog code on his own site. (jonvon.net is his blog, FYI)

But it all boils down to online journals. :)

With Love,
Bob
