Well, this is my list for now, but I'm sure I left some things off or will add to it soon enough. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention all the Better Midler films. Oh well, just about anything with Better* in it is funny as all get out or super serious or both. She is the best.
BILL'S MOVIE LIST
A La Mode great film about two guys apprenticed to be a tailor and a butcher. The 'tailor' ends up becoming much more than this--a real out there fashion designer. The story also celebrates the great moments in a friendship between the two guys and the burgeoning of young love.
American Beauty simply the best...
Babette's Feast don't miss this one.
Before Night Falls * life of Reinaldo Arenas, artists in Cuba during time of Castro
Billy Elliot kid wants to be a dancer, his family doesn't like it, they change their minds
Birdy How could anyone forget their friends?
Breakfast of Champions well, after you see Bunny, you might know why I like this.
Brideshead Revisited one of the best novels ever written, right up there with, LOVE IN THE RUINS, brought to the televison in six thick episodes.
Central Station strange connexions lead a woman across the sertao and back to herself.
Dead Poets Society boy's school stuff. real good.
Dreams Akira Kurosawa weaves together these amazing tales all w a similar thrust.
Ed Wood you have to see this.
Edward Scissorhands the boy down the street is sort of odd....
Entertaining Angels Dorothy Day, communist, atheist, feminist converts to Christ and founds the Catholic Worker's Movement. Moira Kelly and Martin Sheen star.... Moira's portrayal of Dorothy's relationship/conversations with Jesus was powerful.
Fight Club * Can I get that in 'cornflower blue'?
Gattaca this was like one of my dreams (see 12 Monkeys)
The Halloween Tree nothing like a little history lesson served up in cartoon form.
Heathers the girl I love is the star.
Mermaids the incomparable Cher
Moonstruck Cher again, nothing like perfection.
My Own Private Idaho * this movie is about 'home'
My So Called Life not a movie, but everyone should rent these on DVD and watch them. there are 19 episodes. it is absolutely one the best written television dramas of all time.
Pixote * street kids in Brasil have it hard, real hard
Prancer Do you believe in Santa's Reindeer?
Rebel Without a Cause it's all about Sal Mineo babe.
Something Wicked This Way Comes Bradburian magic served up a la Disney
Stand By Me Awwww, come'on. you knew I'd put this one didn't ya.
Strawberry and Chocolate another film about artists in Cuba
Talented Mr. Ripley I could relate to it
Tea With Mussolini there is no end to Cher. this movie is amazing. what does a bad girl have to do with a bunch of proper women and few ragtags (Dench, Tomlin)? Find out.
12 Monkeys: my dreamworld is real
White Squall learning how to sail a ship can be hard, and you can always fall back on being an A&F ad if that doesn't work out
* = I have been told that things about these movies are offensive. They might contain implied sex scenes, or adult themes. Use judgement when selecting movies.
