: I'm curious as to what your favorite movies are. I'm more curious as to why you like them?
This is tough. I will keep my list down to 5.
Favorite Movie Why
Thirteen Days Although this one didn't win any awards
(that I know of), it gives me hope that
there could be things happening by people
in power to overcome war. I liked the
message - The Kennedy administration
did not regard popularity when trying to
avoid war. They gave the Russians every
chance to "stand down." I don't own this
movie, but I've seen it almost 10 times.
Fight Club I enjoyed the way the story allows you to
gradually realize the truth about Tyler
Durden. I liked seeing things from a
skewed perspective, and I like when the
story process shows me something new about
myself. (Similar to Memento).
Pulp Fiction God touched me when I first watched this
movie (in the theatre).
Swingers This movie made me laugh during a very
hard time in my life. There is such
great chemistry between the characters.
Band of Brothers This mini-series aired on HBO, and they
released it on DVD. I am totally ignorant
when it comes to the American military
and its history, so I learned a lot.
This series follows
a platoon from basic training in the U.S.
all the way through WW II. The characters
and experiences are based on reality as
told by actual veterans. Each episode
includes interviews with the veterans and
their recollections. I remember one specific
interview with a veteran named "Shifty"
Powers. He said that, the American and German
soldiers could've been "very good friends"
if they had met under different
circumstances. The movie gives a little
perspective to the chaos... It also made
me realize, that in my lifetime, there would
eventually be no one that lived on the Earth
that was alive while Hitler was alive. This
thought struck me as a little odd.
