: According to Dr. J.R. Ouyang, 2 gallons =1 peck and 4 pecks = 1 bushel, therefore 1 bushel = 8 gallons. My next question: WHERE DID JESUS AND THE DISCIPLES GET THE BASKETS IN THE FIRST PLACE?

At the local Wal-Mart. ;-)

Seriously, though, they were fishermen. How did they carry their daily catch of fish off of their boats? Maybe in baskets. :-)

How big were the baskets? As big as bushels? More like pecks? Don't know, but...

12 bushels = 28,597 tablespoons
12 pecks = 7149 tablespoons

IF the baskets were bushels, and IF the 5000 men represented 10,000 total people, each person left over an average of less than 3 tablespoonfulls of food.

IF the baskets were pecks, and IF the 5000 men represented 10,000 total people, each person left over an average of less than 3/4 of a tablespoonfull of food.
