Bill: Indeed, why are we all so rushed? We jeopardize our own lives in order to get somehwere a pinch faster.

John: Because the world of business, capitalism, economics and stratification has turned good ol' friends and neighbors (and even good ol' strangers) into rats in an ever increasingly complicated maze where the prize is a "obtain-consume-dispose" mentality. People move away from everyone to have a piece of land that is their solitude fortress. Unfortunately *EVERYONE* does this and it creates sprawl. People's homes are farther away from their jobs. Because so much time is spent at work, and the inevitable drive there and back, people don't leave for work until they absolutely have to and then go careening down the asphalt byways with maniacal purpose to get to work before being late. Spend a full day at work, and probably more hours there than is healthy. At quitting time they slip out a few extra minutes early, which is the difference between careening just as recklessly home or sitting in traffic for an extra 1/2 hour letting the blood boil in the Florida heat. The frame of mind becomes very focused, so focused that it deludes a person into running yellow (and red) lights, rolling stops at stop signs, cutting through multiple lanes of traffic to get the turn off they need just before they miss it.

gggrrrrrrrrrr.............

i drive through this every day.....

i'm done....

Bill: Great RANT John! Thanks. I kept thinking about how we are more faithful to this maniacal process than we are often times to our other committments. What concerns drive us to this particular way of life? What purpose does this way of life serve? What keeps us so faithful? Hmmmm...just thinking out loud.
