I agree with you about the Hell-house thing, "Scaring the Hell out of people," as the church so wittily puts it. There was not nearly as much of that as I expected, although there was the obligatory hell scene. The counselors actually focused on the fact that there is hope in this ridiculous world where child molestors go free over technicalities and people deal with so much pain. I'm waiting to decide how I feel about it until I see if anybody comes to Christ and STAYS with Him.

As for the domestic dispute scene, I would love to think that being gay is a peaceful state of being for a teenage boy, but our society continues to put them at the center of violence and emotional trauma again and again, by freaked-out parents and by bullying peers. It's awful, and it's not okay for these violent scenes to be shoved under the carpet, while we point our fingers at kids bringing guns to school.

That's my first reaction to what you said. However, if you saw it the way you did, that means that there are more people who saw it the same way. It's not the message I got from it, but it does disturb me that it could be construed as yet another gay-bashing thing by a community that does NOT need more of that.
