Sounds like he had Intro to Sociolgy and Intro to Psychology. These basic views have been developed in depth by so many sociologists and psychologists in so many variations the books would fill your bedroom. Many of them think that all truth, morality, and ideals are imposed by society. In this line of thinking, our concept of God is the projection of the best part of humanity, and this projection is then accepted as an objective reality, becoming our highest standard and the plausibility structure that both legitimates all of society's values and beliefs and imposes them. While the dynamics of sociological theory are clearly valid, any theory that reduces God to an idea, a projection, or an illusion, and reduces religion to a function of society, causes us to throw the baby out with the bathwater--that is, to throw the sociological truth out with the atheistic agendas. Enough said--this is a huge subject and one we have addressed in our classes to some extent. :-)

We know that God IS an objective reality, not just the highest ideal.
