If I have learned anything from Pastor Steve's teaching it is this: Beware of anybody that has all the answers - especially if they come all packed in a pretty package with a nice fluffy bow.
This is one area where you should thouroughly inspect the mouth of that horse...
I hear you and I have been there myself, but in my experience true wisdom is defined by accepting that there are things you can not know.
I am sure your church leaders are well versed in scripture, however they also come to the table with the doctrines they learned in seminary and their denominations.
OK, I will shut up because I am a theological ant. I just saw a red flag go up and had to speak!
By the way - I think it is great that you have a church where you can feel comfortable asking questions, it sounds like you are getting fed and that makes such a big difference!

: : BUT - the hundreds of years of reactionary theological development would be extremely relevant to you if you ever studied them. I promise.
:
: You know, I really used to believe that. I did study and read quite a bit, and it only left me with questions.
: Now, I have questions still, but when I turn to the leaders of my church for answers, they have answers. So far, every single question I have asked:
: 1) has an answer
: 2) the answer is not contradictory
: 3) the answer is not confusing
: 4) the answer can be backup up with scripture
: The questions I have posed here also have answers, I have just neither sat down and asked anyone, nor prayed for answers yet.
: But given those 4 things -- what do philosophers really have to offer? They could be fun to read, for sure, but when I have an uncontradictory belief set, church leaders to guide me, and answers to the questions I pose.... the philosophers seems just like idle reading.
: I don't mean to criticize your area of interest at all... it just seems to me that fallible thinking built on hundreds of years of fallible thinking cannot possibly be a valid foundation for a spiritual path.
: Which is probably why you 'critique' them. :)
