: : : What group was that you guys were in on that old old picture on the hifidelity sight.
: : WOW i just saw this thread! bill you pretty much nailed it, i can't believe you remembered as many names as you did. i think the guy who you couldn't remember used to date rachel marcos but i can't remember his name.
: : : i'd forgotten the names of a few of those guys besides him. i used to know richard haas fairly well but couldn't remember his name for anything. and rene! wow i can't believe you recognized him. man i can't even remember where that was taken. it kinda looks like maybe a big hotel room or something, was that from a retreat? i'm trying to think of when all those particular guys would have been together for a picture like that. it had to have been some kind of leadership thing. bill were you a leader in a rock group? : [Well, Dillon, was a nice chap (top left w baseball cap), who I thought exceptionally handsome! I believe we were at Camp Kalaqua, the Seventh Day Adventist campground we used to go to. I am sure that it wasn't a 'servant-only' retreat. We did one of those at Lake Junaluska one year.....that was the OTHER time that you and I shared a room. The time that we roomed with Josh Harris I think and the time that you were reading Perelandra or something like that. I forgot our other roommate. Maybe Ray Abraham or John Blake. When I see pictures like this, that whole posed thing, which give illusions of closeness, I think of all the moments in my life at once. Hmmmmm....I think, how did that moment occur. What hopes and dreams were in all of our hearts in that moment. Who would have known that in the future at least three of the guys in that picture would live together at some point? Who would have guessed who those guys would have been. For instance, at that time in my life, I never thought--it never occurred to me that one day Scott Pardo would have free access to my bedroom, would sit up til 4 am watching movies with me, would be taking my phone messages and cooking me gourmet dinners. Who would have though that one day, he and I would be playing Ministry, Front 242 and Nine Inch Nails and sitting in his bedroom talking about our how our day went? I remember when Scott moved out into some apartment with a real cool guy named Jeff who liked The Cure. Hmmmmm...... And I was to live w you too. Hmmmmmm........ Who would have thought, in those days you were merely an idol for me. I looked up to you with some weird kind of feeling that you could pull me up somewhere higher than where I had been. You know, it was true, but then the more you allowed yourself to do that, the more equal I felt we had become. There was a neat chemistry at work there. I looked up to someone and was challenged to match his stride and then to eventually find my own swagger, my own way of walking. But, I had to imitate for awhile. That was good though, since I learned that you were not a god, only a very strong beacon, not to mention a great friend. I love Scott and I love you. Dillon was particularyl strange. Usually silent, often to himself, hmmmm......I wonder....mystery guy.....he and I talked that weekend. He did not say much, but he did manage to be very friendly, kind, accomodating, etc. I think his name was Dillon or Dylan, and his last name was Worley.] : : (for the uninitiated rock stood for Reaching Out for Christ's Kingdom - it was what we called home groups/ cell groups for the youth ministry.) : : i think all those guys would have been from different groups, none of them were ever in any group that i ever led or was a part of. : [Mark M and I were leaders in the same group, which is the one that eventually started with Nelson Gutierrez and Dan Conway, then it was taken over by Dan and Eric Todd, Janet Secher, who eventually married him and Karen Toni Rosa (KT). Later, Rob Hayes and Rick Joly joined it. We had all the 'metal' kids in our group, and the skaters, etc. We had Dawn Kaye in our group. I still talk to her today. Later, the group moved to the leadership team of me, Mark and Liz, KT and Steve Fortner. Then, Bill Camillo and Paul and Serena Bader and Bonnie Greene came on board. It was at this time that I went back to the Methodist Church and started my trek for Rome, so I began to lose touch w the group.] : : [Al & Kathy still head the music there. I believe Ray Bones is still singing there. I really respect Craig and the church for there openness to homosexuals. There are alot of homosexuals out there who know they don't 'fit' into the MCC churches or other 'gay' churches, but who also do not feel accepted in mainstream evangelical or non-denominational churches. Craig Altman has not been scared to reach allow homosexuals to be a part of his church. He also has promoted ministries that work with the gay community. I am very proud of Craig for being so open in this regard.] : : whew! you never know what is going to happen in a day! : [apparently, who knows what other adventures lie in wait for us! This makes me want to ask what Jeff's original interest was in the pic. Had you just seen it Jeff? Or had you been wondering for awhile?] : Later, Bill
: : Craig Altman, the youth pastor from those days has his own church now, i think it is called Grace Family Church, something like that. and yeah, Calvary Temple of Temple Terrace, they used to be called Calvary Temple International Christian Center. They had some strong ties to some ministries down in Central America so I guess they wanted to kind of say they had a "world outreach" thing happening. I don't remember now why they changed it.
