: : : So if you are talking about experiencing its power, then lets go meditate in a field when the next hurricane passes your way. That is the frightening power of nature. If you understand its beauty, that's great, but lets not sugar coat it. Nature will kick our butts.

: : I agree, but I have to say that unless you live right on the water, a hurricane isn't usually that scary. John lives inland. ( I just realized how incongruent that is) Probably it's a bunch of wind and a little rain for him. I'll go sit in the field with you john.
: : That's just been my experience though.
: : The no name storm about 10 years ago was much scarier and more along the lines of what Bob is talking about I think. = C
: : Tornadoes, too!

: Damn the American media. They make it look like hurricanes like are that bad everywhere. But they also told people that Colorado was totally torched this summer, which isn't quite true. Some parts were torched, most of it was smoky, but the people from out East who called us all in Denver to ask if the city was still standing were as misinformed as apparently I am.
: But this brings up an point of interest to me, which we discussed briefing on the other branching of this thread -- where and what are the places and events that show the power of nature?
: We've named so far:
: Hurricanes, near the coast.
: Tornadoes.
: Lightning storms.
: Volcanoes.
: Swamps.
: Does anyone have any good 'power of nature' stories to share?
This brings me back to the "no name storm" was it 93 or 94? Can't remember. Any way, my mother-in-law came to visit us and the news reports of this monster storm came on the TV, well she had driven, adn instead of waiting it out went ahead and tried to drive back to Michigan (which brings up a whole mess of answers to why my ex is the way he is) Well, her route took her through Atlanta, I think this was in march. She was going through some mountains and was suddenly and completely snowed in. to where all she could do was find the nearest hotel and stay put until the storm had passed and they cleared the snow. This storm may also be known as the "The Storm Of the Century".
What I remember of it is that there was some of the worst flooding and winds that we have ever experienced around here, along with these freezing temperatures. Completely destroyed my vegetable garden. :(
