: Uau! ~N~
: Great questions! You don't miss a beat. Well here goes? I'll try to answer them all.
:
: So...let's begin here...
: If you could go anywhere in the world, and all expenses were paid, you had a dream job waiting for you. Where would you go?
: Well, Curitiba, Brasil of course!
This looks like a fun place Bill...so bright and shiny...great beaches!!
: How long would you stay?
: Long enough to become fluent in Portuguese at least, unless I wanted to stay on after that.
What would it take to make you want to stay after becomig fluent? It looks like one of those places you just fall in love with, and kind of drop off the end of the world to stay forever
: What personal effects would you take?
: I imagine I'd leave my books and CDs here, and sell everything else and just go down there and return to my almost monk-like existence, which Marc and I almost perfected at the Pink Palace (Marc and I lived together for awhile).
I want to hear more about this 'Pink Palace'. It sounds fun...as for monk like existence...I've not lived monk like before, but have definately lived a recluse's existence...any similarities?
: Why that place?
: for various reasons. After reading Bill McKibben's great essay on Curitiba, I have been curious as to what actually living there would be like. Can you imagine a city where most of the transport used was public busing and biking or walking? Can you imagine a city where people fought off a potential highway project to build a 'walking' mall and parks on the inside of town? Can you imagine a place called 'the greenest city on earth'? Not that Curitiba, like any other place is without it's problems, but they have also successfully overcome many of them or at least risen up to greet them. One of the keys is that the people are invovled in the affairs of their city. It is a city where people decided to take ownership. There is much more that I could say, but I'll refrain from doing so here and now. But I'll be glad to entertain any future questions.
WOW!! That sounds like an ideal place. I remember in Germany, every town had a huge section portioned off from the vehicles, you could only ride a bike, the StraB or walk through (or skateboard, but that didn't work too well with the cobblestones!) I thought that was the greatest thing ever...I miss that! The Greenest city on earth!! I want to go now too. When you move there, I'll go and visit you for a week! How's that sound?
: See ya, Bill
you see me? All the way here, in Ft.Loddy Doddy??? That's some keen sight you've there!
