: I'm curious as to what your favorite movies are. I'm more curious as to why you like them?

I cannot make a single list of movies, because there are many different genres, and many different reasons why I find certain movies worthwhile. That is, there are some movies I don't "like," per se, but I find them very valuable in a provocative way. I am always loath to share such movies because some will try to watch them and be offended, not finding anything redemptive in them or in the watching of them. I know Bill understands this well.

That said, the easiest starting point for me is the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, which films rarely exhibit the more controversial qualities mentioned above, but are rich in symbolism and metaphor that makes most sacred stories redemptive and enlightening.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Favorites:
Lord of the Rings (Peter Jackson, not the cartoons)
Dark City
Blade Runner
Brazil
City of Lost Children (French)
Dune
Dune (the other one)
Existenz
The Matrix
Stargate
Twelve Monkeys

Also very good:
A. I.
Sixth Day
Star Wars (at least the first three films: episodes 4,5,6)
Thirteenth Floor
Terminator 1&2
Total Recall

I may add some later. :-)
