I had a date with God tonight. Richard wouldn’t go with me, even though I tried to convince him that he was supposed to be my hero, so I took God instead. He’s a pretty good Hero. Really. We went to Nightmare, this haunted house thing that my church here puts on in October. It’s pretty high-caliber—when I had a moment to notice, I was impressed by the production quality. Mostly, though, I just clutched God, coz I'm a big weinie. It’s based on the top killers of young people, with a fat, psychopathic molester-killer named Chester who I wanted to hide from, a Columbine-type experience, an abusive father screaming at a mother about making their son gay, while the poor kid shot himself on the porch (I still don’t know how they did the brain splatter on that one), and some other stuff. It was pretty intense, and they did some stuff just to scare the bejesus out of you—-the room shaking, people grabbing you and popping up under, over and behind you.
Anyhoo—God was a good date. I’d recommend him. It’s funny how well I’ve been taught about love—thanks to Steve and Grandma—because when the guy was practically spitting in my face and screaming at me in the Columbine scene, I just wanted to tell him Jesus loved him and there are other people who don’t fit in, too, and we’re happy that way. There were a couple of other times when I just prayed for people or when I had to remind myself that Jesus is coming back to end all this.
At the end, there were people outside waiting to pray with us individually, and they didn’t care if we were already saved, they stuck around to talk and share our burdens.
Of course, I was the only visitor in the entire place who dressed Gothic. Okies don’t dress up for anything—sheesh! But my Date told me I looked good, and He should know!
