Hey Kristi,
I think we all know what it feels like to forget our head from time to time. I bet you experience the "did I turn the stove off before I left" syndrome, am I right? Me too, and I bet many others do as well. I guess what I want to say first is that you are not alone.
One thing I have realized is that when I get spacey or forgetful or whatever you want to call it, I really need a tune up, kind of like a refocusing. I need to take time to let God calm me down. Almost as if my confusion is because I have too much going on and God is letting it get to me so I will recognize him in everything.
I've never had kids, but I'd venture to say if you just let a kid to his or her self they would think they would never need rest, then they get cranky and disoriented, confused; needing sleep or at least rest.
I think rest of the soul (or mind) is the same way. We need to take the time to be still and know that He is God. Wait on Him for direction, daily. You'd be surprised at how efficient (and exciting) life can be when you do that.
I think once you take the time to relax with God, your thinking style and ability will be brought out for you. I feel like the actual question has nothing to do with learning, but I do know that God will give you what you ask. This is especially true for things like Wisdom for He tells us that this is more precious that silver and more desirable than precious stones.
Out of Wisdom comes understanding.
Read Proverbs, it's a healthy meal!
Speaking of that, healthy food for the physical body may help you think more clearly. That’s just an afterthought.
