paula and i have been talking over the last few days about something i find really interesting. she says that this fellow, Dr. Sears (www.askdrsears.com) says that attachment parenting "organizes" children. for the longest time she didn't know what it meant until recently. sometimes at night when Roan is having trouble sleeping i'll take her on a walk in the Baby Bjorn carrier. we'll go walking around the complex for a while and when we come back she is much more inclined to go to sleep. in other words she can focus on what she needs to do, which is close her eyes, nestle up to mom, and so forth.

the idea is that before the walk (or other activity that takes place while "attached") she is disorganized. she can't focus on what she needs to do because she has been barraged by stimulus she can't make sense of. somehow being close to mom and/or dad helps her. once she feels loved she is peaceful and "organized".

i find this whole idea really fascinating. i think in my own experience with God the times when i feel close to God like in prayer or after a really good church service or time of fellowship or whatever, i also feel peaceful, purposeful, hopeful, and in a very real sense, organized.
