we saw something beautiful and free
and we wanted to celebrate it
but we despised it
because we could not contain it
could not control it, could not see it for what it was
this is how we became divided
this is where we took our fall
our own hearts divided against themselves
we wanted to acknowledge it
but we recoiled from it
called it something else
it was more than a mistake
it was a settling for something less than noble
it was a sinking into comfortable chairs and beds
while Rome was burning
while Europe was burning
while America was burning
while the cosmos was burning
so we could preserve our little rules
our narrow codes and narrow roads
so we could guard the crossroads with our remotes
overseeing all the channels and paths
ruling over all our little colonies
in the name of something beautiful and free
we destroyed beauty and enslaved
all in the name of our great vision
all in the name of our pampered asses
sitting stupidly on all our plush little thrones
