Thanks for your comments Bob. Remember, trailers are not always summaries of the contents of the movie. A trailer might also be called a teaser. How many times have you seen what looked like an exciting trailer and then gone to the movie to find it's content significantly different from what the trailer made you feel? The trailer is an advertisement for the film itself and thus, usually contains all the bells and whistles it can to get you to sit up and take notice. I'm sorry if you feel like the trailer was misleading. Many people have previewed the movie and mention its sentiments of love and forgiveness. But I don't think that the trailer was trying to BE the whole movie. Still, I agree with you in this respect. If the whole movie was nothing but violence it would not be good. Another thing we have to look at is that we live in a culture that shuns pain and suffering. One of the most important things about Jesus is his atoning death. To depict this has been a theme for artists for years. It is within a long tradition to do so. To contemplate what he did for all men, Christians or not, is a great exercise of the mind. There are unfathomable riches hidden in him, and in his death they were released or poured out in a great way. We are not talking blood and guts here, but in terms of God's love and mercy and grace. Of course God could have saved us without a bloody crucifixion, but for some strange reason it is the very path he chose for his own reasons to love us. So, the crucifixion has been lovingly depicted with devotion by many artists for so many years now.
