definitely christmas. i like the music. i like the decorations. i like going to a midnight service. the spookier, or, the more... hm. the more mysterious... the more like a dream, yeah, the better. christmas is a dark dream. i think of antlers and a roaring fire.

To me it is like this equipoise of night and day. It is a dark yet triumphal joy. It is light radiating out of winter's cold chambers. It is the birth of the sun and the birth of Jesus Christ. It is God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, which always sounded kind of spooky to me. It is O Come, O Come Emmanuel....ghostlike, cedar-chested and forested. It is horn and oak and ivy. It is bringing in the greens and putting them on the hearth. It is a jewel on black velvet, or maybe maroon velvet.
